Obama Rearranging the Deck Chairs on the Titanic Economy

A Facebook friend posted this article after President Teleprompter’s (in the words of the great Ace of Ace of Spades HQ) “Big Stupid Dumb-Ass Uhh-dress to the Nation”. I thought it was going to be making fun of his reliance on the Teleprompter, what with the title being “Analysis: Teleprompter Telegraphs Obama Caution”. But upon reading, I was sadly mistaken. I should have known better, this coming from the lapdog Associated (with Terrorists) Press.

WASHINGTON (AP) – What kind of politician brings a teleprompter to a news conference?

A careful one.

President Barack Obama took no chances in his second prime-time news conference, reading a prepared statement in which he took both sides of the AIG bonus brouhaha and asked an anxious nation for its patience.

“There are no quick fixes,” he said, “and there are no silver bullets.”

It’s an interesting dichotomy: Obama came before the nation to sell one of the most expensive and politically risky agendas ever offered by a U.S. president, but his language was heavy with caution. A hard-willed plan given a soft sell.

Served up opportunities to lead with his heart, Obama was cerebral. Cool and calming in a time of white-hot public anger.

Oh please. Could the AP be any more freaking in the tank for this jackass?

“You know, there was a lot of outrage and finger-pointing last week, and much of it is understandable,” Obama said of the bonus issue in his opening remarks. “I’m as angry as anybody about those bonuses that went to some of the very same individuals who brought our financial system to its knees.”

“Bankers and executives on Wall Street need to realize that enriching themselves on the taxpayers’ dime is inexcusable, that the days of outsized rewards and reckless speculation that puts us all at risk have to be over,” the president told reporters and the nation.

But he didn’t look angry. Nor did he sound much like a pitchfork-wielding populist.

“At the same time, the rest of us can’t afford to demonize every investor or entrepreneur who seeks to make a profit. That drive is what has always fueled our prosperity, and it is what will ultimately get these banks lending and our economy moving once more,” he said.

It was a carefully modulated statement, and Obama — relying on a familiar crutch — read it off a flat-screen monitor perched at the back of the East Room.

The teleprompter was no help during the question-and-answer session (reporters don’t signal their intentions), but Obama was no less careful during that give and take.

Asked why people should trust government with the regulatory authority to take over failing financial companies such as troubled insurer American International Group Inc., Obama passed on the chance to demonize Washington.

“Keep in mind, it is precisely because of the lack of this authority that the AIG situation has gotten worse,” Obama said. He then gave a scholarly explanation of how the proposal would work.

Of course, the brilliant writer of the article fails to tell us exactly what Obama said in that “scholarly explanation”.

Pressed again, Obama cited the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s handling of the IndyMac Bank as an example of government properly using its authority.

The government did something right? That’s news to most Americans.

Still, it’s hard to criticize Obama’s communication skills or tactics. Polls show that while the public has turned against Washington and Wall Street, the president’s ratings remain steady.

Ah yes. He may be an utterly clueless and incompetent tool, not able to do anything right to improve the nation, but hey, his communication skills — using the crutch of the teleprompter — and his tactics (inciting his Communist buddies with ACORN and International ANSWER to canvas neighborhoods and protest and harass AIG execs and their families) are wonderful! And look at his poll numbers too! “Remain steady”? Is the AP clueless? They’ve been falling like a ROCK for the past 2 months?

Yeah and the Titanic was “remain[ing] steady” in the water for 60 minutes after it hit the iceberg… right before it cracked right open and then plummeted to the bottom of the ocean. Morons.

He has aggressively delivered his cautious message — through town halls, talk shows, travel and, yes, prime-time news conferences. His message: Stick with me and my $3.6 trillion budget.

“This is a big ocean liner, it’s not a speedboat. It doesn’t turn around immediately,” he said Tuesday night. “But we’re in a better, better place because of the decisions that we made.”

Calm. Cool. Careful.

Ocean liner. bwahahahaha. Right after I bring up the Titanic analogy and I read on to see this. haha classic.

“Calm. Cool. Careful.” For crissakes, could the lapdog media be any more obvious in their licking his..

And geez, could he leave himself any more open to analogies of the Titanic?  Big ocean liners can’t turn immediately?  Hey Prez Tele?  “ICEBERG! ICEBERG!”

One of the few times he summoned raw emotion came after a reporter demanded to know why it took him so long to express outrage over the AIG executive bonuses.

“It took a couple of days because I like to know what I’m talking about before I speak.”

Even better, he likes to have it up on the teleprompter.

Yeah, I’m guessing the real reason was his teleprompter was in the shop getting a tune-up for a couple days and that was the cause of the delay.

Becoming Rorschach – I’ve Never Been the Same Since

Rorschach 2

[reading from journal] Rorschach’s Journal. November 12th, 1985: Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout “Save us!”… and I’ll whisper “no.” —Rorschach, Watchmen

Ryan has a great post up about his thoughts after seeing Watchmen, a movie I really enjoyed: Politics Among Watchmen

He left this in the comments in response to a commentor:

“One thing I would say is that although Rorscharch only saw the evil in people, I think that he was the only won that I could truly relate to. I completely understood what he meant about how who he had been died the night he found the little girl. I also admired his sticking to principles. He knew he was going to die, he just didn’t care because, to him, it was worse to remain silent. Then ends did not justify the means used to achieve peace.”

I related to him too. All my years as a cop, the people I associated with the most were criminals. Fucks up your perception on society.

Here is my contribution to his comments section:

I related most to him as well. And just like he stated that he died the night he saw that little girl, my former self died on 9/11/2001. Prior to that day I didn’t care one whit about politics, cared not one whit about the military, cared not one whit about pretty much anything except my own little bubble of my own little world of work, sports and dating. After 9/11/2001, it was like a huge smack upside the head to open my eyes that there was a lot of sh*t going on outside my little bubble of what I considered life and reality.

From that day forward, I dedicated myself to get informed on politics, on history, on the military, on military history, on war, on war history, etc. I’ve never been the same since. Ignorance truly was bliss and being informed now has made me nothing but bitter, angry, pissed off and extremely cynical. And did I mention angry and pissed off? Prior to that, I definitely thought that people were genuinely good and that every person was just one good person coming into their life away from seeing the beauty in life and enjoying life. No longer.

So I definitely saw myself in Rorshach.

And I especially liked the end of the movie where they let the viewer know what the future held. They said “this will never end” or something along those lines. And let the bad guy (his name escapes me at the moment) know that he just killed millions of people for nothing, for the peace was only temporary until people started going back to being a**holes and killing each other again. Rorshach knew that and that’s what pissed him off the most. He only wanted to make the evil people pay, not kill millions of innocents for nothing. And he couldn’t bear to keep silent about that and would rather die than be a hypocrite and betray his own principles.

But I agree, f*ck Dr Manhattan for killing him.

I read a review that compared and contrasted this with the message in The Dark Knight, which is that people are generally good (as evidenced by the ferry scene towards the end). In my opinion (and that of the reviewer) the message in Watchmen was that people were generally bad and you can’t deny and wish away man’s nature of being bad.

Excellent, excellent, thought-provoking movie which I want to see again and am really looking forward to getting on DVD and hoping for lots of extras discussing these things.

As a Nation, We Committed Obamacide

Via Jesus Disciple

Obamacide
o-ba·ma·cide

1 : act of depraved indifference in regards to the unborn during the 2008 Presidential Elections
2 : trading the truth and God for selfish reasons and motivations, while ignoring the life and dignity of the unborn
3 : holding other issues in higher priority over the mass slaughter of thousands each day in America
4 : thinking that just because we can’t see the unborn, they don’t matter
5 : voting for someone who has vowed to sign legislation (The Freedom of Choice act) which if enacted would abolish all restrictions and limitations on abortion, resulting in millions more dead

MONOLOGUE
On November 4th 2008 we saw the hearts of the majority of American voters and it’s no surprise considering what the bible says about the human condition. This doesn’t mean our countries hopeless though, no matter what silly slogan obama misuses that word in. We still have the only real hope there is.

VERSE 1
Since I’m a rapper, you must think that I’m liberal,
But I’m never gonna listen to their lies or this bull,
It’s kinda funny, but it’s stereotypical,
To think Blacks, Hispanics and us rappers are little fools,
I’m not your puppet and you haven’t deceived me,
And I’m never gonna buy into the lies that you feed me,
I won’t sell out over selfish reasons,
And reject all the principles I’ve come to believe in,
You’re brainwashing the poor to think that,
The only thing that matters is the less that they pay tax,
I don’t know how the democrats tricked ’em,
But now they think, that they aren’t really part of the system,
The democratic parties never liked black rights,
Even though that’s contradictory to what they might act like,
But now it seems that they’ve gotten their way on that,
Today, most blacks are now slaves to the democrats.

VERSE 2
People say I’m just a one issue conservative,
And then they act shocked like I shouldn’t be concerned with it,
I’m disconcerted with the way all these churches sit back,
Like the murder of children isn’t concernin’ them,
They say it’s their right to take a child and than murder ’em,
This is absurd and it’s something that I’ve been burdened with.
Since Roe V Wade over 49 million,
Unborn babies have been destroyed and dismembered and,
It’s hard to believe in a country that’s so proud of rights,
People can get a way with taking other peoples lives,
I can’t believe that the majority approves this,
Pretending like we really don’t know where the proof is,
We’re not that ignorant, but I know we’re evil,
Scientists care more for global warming than people,
So as we spend millions, tryina prove we’re the cause,
Millions are gonna die because we’re stubborn and wrong.

VERSE 3
It’s funny they say that it’s all for the children,
And I guess it might be, only if we don’t kill them,
Too bad the new president, cares more about choice,
Then the murder of americans, who don’t have a voice,
They say this election was great for our nation,
But the only thing it proved, is still people are racist,
Those who voted soley based on skin tone,
Have desecrated the dream, martin luther king lived for,
Before you say that I’m racist or arrogant,
Alan Keyes has an african american heritage,
That’s the man I endorsed from the get go,
He believes in God’s authority and holds on to this hope,
I couldn’t vote for McCain or republicans,
When it came down to it they betrayed all our trust in them,
-This nations consumed with the sin that enslaves us,
Since we’ve rejected the law of the God who made us.

MONOLOGUE
When it comes to the current state of America there are many issues that arise, but the real issue behind it all is our relationship to God as individuals and as a nation.

CHORUS
We’ve become so numb to reality,
That we don’t even see we’ve become God’s enemy,
We the people, traded truth and God for lies,
As a nation we’ve committed obamacide.
It’s so sad, I have to write on this notepad,
The things people know in their hearts, but just won’t have,
We the people, traded truth and God for lies,
As a nation we’ve committed obamacide.

We murder 4 thousand a day,
Let alone for convenience sake,
How can you just sit back and never react,
To the holocaust in front of your face?
The sad thing is we’d like to save our face,
But the truth is we’re all to blame,
They say hitler was evil, but we’ve killed,
Over 49 million since Roe V Wade.
