Be The Best of Whatever You Are
By Douglas Malloch

If you can’t be a pine on the top of the hill,
Be a scrub in the valley-but be
The best little scrub by the side of the rill;
Be a bush if you can’t be a tree.

If you can’t be a bush be a bit of the grass,
And some highway happier make;
If you can’t be a muskie then just be a bass-
But the liveliest bass in the lake!

We can’t all be captains, we’ve got to be crew,
There’s something for all of us here,
There’s big work to do, and there’s lesser to do,
And the task you must do is the near.

If you can’t be a highway then just be a trail,
If you can’t be the sun be a star;
It isn’t by size that you win or you fail-
Be the best of whatever you are!

Watch Your …
By Frank Outlaw

Watch your thoughts,
for they become words.
Watch your words,
for they become actions.
Watch your actions,
for they become habits.
Watch your habits,
for they become character.
Watch your character,
for it becomes your destiny.

“Sow an act and you reap a habit.
Sow a habit and you reap a character.
Sow a character and you reap a destiny.”

—Charles Reade

“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet.
Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.”

—Helen Keller

“Your reputation is in the hands of others.
That’s what a reputation is.
You can’t control that.
The only thing you can control is your character.”

—Dr. Wayne W. Dyer

“Character is the ability to follow through on a resolution
long after the emotion with which it was made has passed.”

—Brian Tracy

“Be more concerned with your character than with your reputation.
Your character is what you really are while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”

—Dale Carnegie

“Character isn’t inherited.
One builds it daily by the way one thinks and acts,
thought by thought, action by action.”

—Helen Gahagan Douglas
