AmeriCAN-DO Attitude

Are you an AmeriCAN or an AmeriCAN'T?

What “Pristine” Planet?

The earth-worshiping Left likes to think of the earth as some “pristine” utopia were it not for we evil humans destroying it. The fact is that the earth is a violently unstable entity. There is nothing remotely “pristine” about it. This comment below was left in response to radical Lefty James Cameron’s nonsensical justification for his America-hating, U.S. military-hating, pro-AGW cult-worshiping flick Avatar.

VIEIRA: Yeah there’s a love story and also there’s a message about, you know, greed and when people want a lot of things, imperialism. All of that.

CAMERON: And how that tends to destroy the environment and so on. And here they are doing the same thing on another pristine planet that we’ve done here on earth. So it’s a way, sort of looking back at ourselves from this other world and seeing what we’re doing here.

Hmmm, let’s see, we have a pristine planet in this flick, eh? So, Cameron, tell me, when a large volcano decides to blow its top and spew plumes of toxic gases and megatons of dirt and grit into the air on this make-believe planet, is it still pristine? How about when there is a great undersea earthquake and the resulting tsunami wipes out hundreds of thousands of acres of ‘pristine’ forests and meadows and critters? Shall I even bother to mention asteroids, lightning strikes, hurricanes, meteors, floods, droughts, etc.?

Yep, and tornadoes and earthquakes and snowstorms and sub-zero temperatures and…

Some ‘pristine’ planet.

Who’s Throwing Anyone Overboard?

I continue to read people on right-of-center blogs say that conservatives who do not want social liberalism in the conservative movement are “throwing people overboard”.

Huh?

Let’s take their “overboard” literally and make the conservative movement a ship. Right now, the ship is being captained by certain people with certain principles: small government, tax cuts for businesses, strong national defense, anti-amnesty, pro-life/anti-abortion, man-woman marriage, etc. This ship allows anyone on board who believes in all or some of these basic conservative principles.

All of a sudden, some of the passengers go to the captain and ask to take the ship in a different direction. They want to go in the GLBT-movement and pro-choice direction. The captain does not see any reason to go off course and denies their request to change course.

Now, he does not “throw them overboard”, but simply denies their request to change course.

So, how is it that “not changing course” is now being called “throwing people overboard”?

If the GLBT-movement conservatives and pro-abortion conservatives are leaving the ship, it is by their own accord, not because they were “thrown overboard”.

Telling someone they cannot steer the ship is not the same as “throwing them overboard”.

Get Government Out of Marriage?

I read a lot of people on right-of-center political blogs say they want to “get government out of marriage altogether!” Okay, well, let’s say we did that.  Not only no government benefits for married couples, but also no government protection for divorce.   From now on, if a man or woman wants to leave their spouse (and kids?) in a lurch, that’s it.   No child support, no alimony, nothing.

Do people honestly think this would be a good thing for society?  Something that would improve society?

In other words, what these people are advocating is to have all relationships to be seen as equal in the eyes of the government.  Single, married, co-habitating, polygamous, polyamorous, same-sex, multiple children from multiple partners, etc… all would be seen as equal in the eyes of the government.

Is this truly what people want in American society?  They see absolutely nothing wrong with this?

You know, the argument these people most often use as justification for their stance is “look at how things are currently… 50% of marriages end in divorce.  Obviously the institution of marriage is not working and may as well be ended”.  Okay, well, look at how things are currently in this nation.  There are many who believe our representative Republic style of government has failed, since people have corrupted the system.  There are many who believe capitalism has failed, since people have corrupted the system.  Should we end those institutions as well?
