Debunking Stupid Liberal Memes, Part VII: “Bush Lied, People Died!”

Back in 2006, Bill Whittle wrote a brilliant piece entitled “Seeing the Unseen” in which he dismantled many of the typical Liberal mantras, most of which could be found proudly and ignorantly plastered on the back of their car bumpers. This post by Mr. Whittle was the first one I read by him and it made me an instant fan of his work. Read on and you will soon see why:

Bush Lied, People Died.

Recent reports of the advanced state of the Iraqi nuclear weapons program, and the confirmed presence of 700+ chemical shells leaves this chestnut in some disarray. However, even if you take that away, the entire concept is a cowardly and petty retreat spoken by people who know better.

Here is a pretty decent encapsulation of what both Republicans and Democrats had to say about Saddam and WMD’s. You will find Bush’s and Rumsfeld’s rhetoric somewhat less adamant and warlike than that of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton, John Kerry, John Edwards, Al Gore, Robert Byrd, Nancy Pelosi, Hans Blix, Madeline Albright, Sandy Berger and all the rest. These were elected representatives who studied the same intelligence that the White House did, and came to the same conclusion.

Unfortunately for them, Al Gore in his unbridled enthusiasm went and invented the Internet, and so now there is a record of what they said and when, available to the great unwashed masses. It shows a group of people deeply concerned about what was a pressing threat to this country. And now, almost all of them claim they were lied to? Are they capable of reading intelligence reports themselves, or did Bush have to read it to them aloud, with them seated at his knee in My Pet Goat fashion, skipping the parts he didn’t think would make a good sell? Some people say that they did not get the same intelligence that Bush got. To the degree that is or isn’t true, the record shows that it was the more outlandish claims that were not included, so that the intelligence that led them to come out against Saddam and in favor of military action was less provocative than the intelligence the President and Secretaries of State and Defense saw.

The invasion of Iraq was meant to prevent Saddam Hussein from using Weapons of Mass Destruction. This mission was accomplished by the time President Bush stood on that carrier deck. The huge majority of casualties we have incurred in the occupation and reconstruction of Iraq have come about by our willingness to rebuild and secure a country that we owed nothing to whatsoever.

Here is the legacy of the Bush Lied, People Died crowd: in the future, we know that no good deeds — building of hundreds of schools and hospitals — will go reported. We know that no foul deeds — a handful of idiots humiliating prisoners over the course of a few days — will ever be put into perspective.

So why do it? Why build schools and hospitals, and protect polling places, and suffer the casualties we have suffered to get a country on it’s feet, if all we hear and see is the negative and the undeniable failures? The next time we have to go and kick the hell out of some band of rabid crazies, why not just kick the hell out of them and then go home? Because there will be a next time, and I suspect sooner rather than later. By refusing to report the myriad successes and kindnesses, our compassionate and caring moral betters in the media have only shown there is very little reason to do them in the first place, except for the satisfaction of our own morality and conscience — which I hope will be enough.

Let me leave you with something very, very important. It is the greatest logical fallacy of them all, and if you hope to gain any perspective in the world today, I believe you have to understand what I am about to say in your bones.

You cannot just count the hits and not record the misses.

May I show you something to make this point?

What you are about to see is a graphical representation of commercial air flights over the US on any given day. You will see dawn on the east coast as more and more flights get airborne, and watch morning spread to the west as the country comes alive. It is one of the most beautiful marriages of science and art I have ever seen. It is here. Go take a peek then come back. I’ll still be here.

Every dot in that animation is a jetliner, carrying hundreds of people. This is the first time I have ever actually seen the miracle that takes place in our skies every single day.

Why am I showing you this? Well, because every single dot in that ocean of sparks is a successful flight. Tens of thousands of flights land in this country every single day and no one says a word about it. And yet, when there is an accident — and you would have to watch every dot in that animation almost 2000 times to get back to the last fatal accident by a large-scale carrier — that sticks in our minds, obviously, and that image of burning wreckage is what stays with some people on their entire flight. They do not think about all the millions of flights that land safely. Nor do they think about the thousands of car accidents that occur with so much greater frequency.

Why?

Because we are recording only the hits — the crashes — and not recording the misses, namely, the safe landings. If you had to drive to work every day listening to radio announcements of every successful landing, you would be listening to a cacophony of flight numbers twenty-four hours a day. After a few years of this you might be able to get a glimmer of perspective on the safety of modern air travel.

Likewise in Iraq. Hand out candies to children on a daily basis, and the smiles and gratitude are nowhere to be seen on US television. But if some death-loving lunatic decides to scatter body parts to the four winds you can bet that will get the News media’s attention. Complete a new hospital, or a water treatment plant, or bring electricity or television stations to neighborhoods that never had them before? Yawn.

On the day of the last Iraqi elections — the day they ratified the constitution the press said these people would never ratify — CNN’s lead story was about nasty rain showers sweeping the southeast. About these historic elections there was heard not a peep.

Iraqi TV has a version of American Idol. Did you know that? They produce hundreds of hours of comedies, game shows — all that stuff. Sounds a little arcane for Iraq, you say? A little normal? That’s because people who believe they are smarter than you have decided that such stories of hope and success do not fit the narrative needed to teach you poor ignorant slobs the lesson that you are supposed to be learning, and that lesson is that George Bush is a murderer while Saddam was a statesman, and that Iraq is a failure fueled by the blood of poor, innocent, child-like soldiers too stupid to realize that they are dying to line the pockets of Halliburton.

My critical thinking skills, such as they are, tell me that you might be able to corral an army and send it over there under such false pretenses. What I cannot explain is why so many people in the military re-up, two or three or four times, to go back and fight for this oil-soaked lie that people here maintain is the truth, despite what the people who have actually been over there have to say about it.

This is an all-volunteer military. Why would so many of these people keep returning to such danger, and put themselves and their families at such terrible risk, for a lie or a mistake?

If Iraq is a con game and an oil steal and an unwinnable quagmire then this just doesn’t make any sense. But back they go! That’s the data. The people most optimistic about Iraq — and those with the most to lose — are generally the same people. They are the men and women who are over there now because they believe they are doing something honorable and good. No one is forcing them to reenlist. Hear that John? I’d hire any one of these people in a heartbeat. They are brighter than the general population, and they are so far beyond their Ivory Tower critics in terms of discipline, courage, ingenuity, integrity and honor that it makes one’s head spin.

Are we beating these terrorist scumbags and child-targeting insurgent bastards? Are we winning?

Well, let’s see if we want to switch sides with them. Let’s imagine the war where the insurgents have our cards and we hold theirs.

Imagine the US completely occupied by Al Qaeda forces, subject to Sharia law. We are able to take pot shots at a few of them, and we manage to murder a few dozen of our own people every day in an attempt to stop the population from collaborating with the hated invader. But more and more Americans seem to be turning to Sharia and want to get on with their lives. We find sixty percent of the population wants Al-Qaeda to leave, but hatred for the US insurgent forces — the Wolverines — is at about 98%. The people hate the occupiers, but they despise the Wolverines.

Now imagine that a year into the occupation of America, George Bush’s two daughters were killed in a firefight with the enemy, which had surrounded the college sorority house where they were hiding. A year after that, President Bush was pulled out of a septic tank in Crawford by the Fedayeen, then put on trial and sentenced to hang, which he did on national television to widespread cheering. Condi Rice, captured in an early morning raid several years ago, has been a great source of useful information to target the American resistance, and Donald Rumsfeld was killed by a suicide bomber this last summer.

Everywhere you turn — in every street and every city in America — Al Qaeda forces run security patrols, training Americans to do this for themselves. The only way to stop this is by killing our own people, which further alienates us from a populace that already despises us.

Does that feel like winning to you? Me neither. Welcome to the insurgency.

Iraqi Perspectives Project – Saddam & Terrorism: Emerging Insights from Captured Iraqi Documents

This report was released online, available for download, this past week after the mass media did their best to completely lie and misinform about the contents of the report. They did this under the assumption that the American public would believe their lies, since they probably would not even bother to read the report.

Well, here is your chance to prove the mass media wrong. Just go here to download and read the report:

The Iraqi Perspectives Project — Saddam and Terrorism: Emerging Insights from Captured Iraqi Documents.

Here is the press release about the report: United States Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) has released online an unclassified redacted version of the Joint Center for Operational Analysis (JCOA)-sponsored study entitled “The Iraqi Perspectives Project — Saddam and Terrorism: Emerging Insights from Captured Iraqi Documents.”

(NORFOLK, Va. – March 20, 2008) — United States Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) has released online an unclassified redacted version of the Joint Center for Operational Analysis (JCOA) – sponsored study entitled “The Iraqi Perspectives Project — Saddam and Terrorism: Emerging Insights from Captured Iraqi Documents.”

In order to accommodate continuing public interest and to provide an accurate, definitive report, this online version is made available to improve efficient delivery of this material.

The five volumes of the document, linked below, documents the history of the Saddam regime.

The Institute for Defense Analyses produced the report under contract for the command as part of the broader Iraqi Perspectives Project.

The Iraqi Perspectives Project examines operational and strategic insights and lessons from the perspective of former senior Iraqi decision-makers through the analysis of primary source material such as interviews and captured regime documents.

The study’s authors completed the report after screening more than 600,000 captured documents including several hundred hours of audio and video files archived by U.S. Department of Defense.

As part of USJFCOM, JCOA studies strategic and operational lessons from recent and ongoing military operations in order to improve the joint force.

Volume 1 contains the executive summary of the report. Volumes 2-5 provide supporting documentations.

Click on the links below to download each volume individually.

Click on the link I provided above to go to the United States Joint Forces Command website to download the volumes of the report.

Again, the mass media has been completely lying about the contents of this report. This is not suprising to anyone except the so-called “anti-war” and “peace” activists who swallow down the lies of the mass media every time. Well, except when the mass media was reporting the ties between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden in 1998-1999, of course. But, why should we care about all the terrorism going on during the Sainted Clinton Administration. It’s all Boooooosh’s fault afterall.

Anyway, here are also a few great analyses of the report done by the gentlemen at Flopping Aces:

Americans Deserve Insight, Not Old News, On Iraq War, So Where is It?

Pentagon Report Confirms Saddam’s Regime Supported al Qaida

No Ties Between Saddam and Al Queda Network of Terrorist Groups

While the mass media reported that this report proved that there were no ties between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden/a Qaeda, here is the actual conclusion from the report:

“v. Conclusion
One question remains regarding Iraq’s terrorism capability:  Is there anything in the captured archives to indicate that Saddam had the will to use his terrorist capabilities directly against United States?  Judging from examples of Saddam’s statements (Extract 34) before the 1991 Gulf War with the United States, the answer is yes.”

[btw, no emphasis added on that ’yes’. It’s emphasized in the report]

Read the entire report to find out what other lies the mass media has been pushing on you, while assuming you are just an ignorant, lazy idiot who will never read the report.

I Found Saddam’s WMD Bunkers – Iraq’s WMD are Now in the Hands of Terrorists

I have never understood why the Bush Administration has refused since 2003 to combat the lies of the Left and the Democrats and the media that we have not found WMD in Iraq. I have read from numerous sources of everything the Coalition forces have found so far. Not to mention the Saddam Dossier and the Oil for Food program documents which showed Saddam was working to get sanctions lifted through bribery, so he could start up his WMD programs bull-bore without any sanctions.

So reading this article from Melanie Phillips is frustrating and baffling at the same time. Frustrating, because it is yet another source where someone has proven that Saddam either had WMD or had the resources setup to start up his programs were he to go unchallenged. And baffling, because, if what Dave Gaubatz, an agent in the US Air Force’s Office of Special Investigations who searched Iraqi WMD sites after the fall of Saddam, says is correct, then the Bush Administration is covering up the fact that they were absolutely correct about Saddam’s caches of WMD, because they don’t want to take criticism for not preventing the caches of WMD to fall into terrorists’ hands, as the war was intended to do.

Still, this is an interesting read. Of course, because of the Bush Administration’s utter incompetence in defending itself against the “BUSH LIED!” mantra of the Left, the Democrats and the MSM, those people who believe the “BUSH LIED” lie will just discount this, while those of us who know the facts are left with just another set of facts that people in power refuse to show the American public to set the record straight.

I have to say that this really angers me. And I really don’t understand why the Bush Adminstration continues to lie about not finding WMD. I certainly hope they have a good reason for it, because allowing the “BUSH LIED!” lie to take hold with a good portion of the country has completely divided us as a nation and completely eroded support for the war effort.

Found via Scott Johnson at Power Line: Meet Dave Gaubatz

It’s a fair bet that you have never heard of a guy called Dave Gaubatz. It’s also a fair bet that you think the hunt for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq has found absolutely nothing, nada, zilch; and that therefore there never were any WMD programmes in Saddam’s Iraq to justify the war ostensibly waged to protect the world from Saddam’s use of nuclear, biological or chemical weapons.

Dave Gaubatz, however, says that you could not be more wrong. Saddam’s WMD did exist. He should know, because he found the sites where he is certain they were stored. And the reason you don’t know about this is that the American administration failed to act on his information, ‘lost’ his classified reports and is now doing everything it can to prevent disclosure of the terrible fact that, through its own incompetence, it allowed Saddam’s WMD to end up in the hands of the very terrorist states against whom it is so controversially at war.

You may be tempted to dismiss this as yet another dodgy claim from a warmongering lackey of the world Zionist neocon conspiracy giving credence to yet another crank pushing US propaganda. If so, perhaps you might pause before throwing this article at the cat. Mr Gaubatz is not some marginal figure. He’s pretty well as near to the horse’s mouth as you can get.

Having served for 12 years as an agent in the US Air Force’s Office of Special Investigations, Mr Gaubatz, a trained Arabic speaker, was hand-picked for postings in 2003, first in Saudi Arabia and then in Nasariyah in Iraq. His mission was to locate suspect WMD sites, discover threats against US forces in the area and find Saddam loyalists, and then send such intelligence to the Iraq Survey Group and other agencies.

Between March and July 2003, he says, he was taken to four sites in southern Iraq — two within Nasariyah, one 20 miles south and one near Basra — which, he was told by numerous Iraqi sources, contained biological and chemical weapons, material for a nuclear programme and UN-proscribed missiles. He was, he says, in no doubt whatever that this was true.

This was, in the first place, because of the massive size of these sites and the extreme lengths to which the Iraqis had gone to conceal them. Three of them were bunkers buried 20 to 30 feet beneath the Euphrates. They had been constructed through building dams which were removed after the huge subterranean vaults had been excavated so that these were concealed beneath the river bed. The bunker walls were made of reinforced concrete five feet thick.

‘There was no doubt, with so much effort having gone into hiding these constructions, that something very important was buried there’, says Mr Gaubatz. By speaking to a wide range of Iraqis, some of whom risked their lives by talking to him and whose accounts were provided in ignorance of each other, he built up a picture of the nuclear, chemical and biological materials they said were buried underground.

‘They explained in detail why WMDs were in these areas and asked the US to remove them,’ says Mr Gaubatz. ‘Much of this material had been buried in the concrete bunkers and in the sewage pipe system. There were also missile imprints in the area and signs of chemical activity — gas masks, decontamination kits, atropine needles. The Iraqis and my team had no doubt at all that WMDs were hidden there.’

There was yet another significant piece of circumstantial corroboration. The medical records of Mr Gaubatz and his team showed that at these sites they had been exposed to high levels of radiation.

Read it all: “I found Saddam’s WMD Bunkers”

Also, Allahpundit at HotAir notes that FrontPageMag covered this story last year, as did the NYTimes. The fact that we have not told Syria to hand over the WMD or face the consequences, especially when they are contributing to the terrorism in the world and in Iraq and Israel and Lebanon through Hezb’Allah and allowing terrorists to cross their borders into Iraq, is maddening. We allow the world to call us liars and evil and warmongers and idiots, when we have intel showing that the WMD are in Syria. Why the HELL aren’t we acting on it.

As I said before, the Bush Administration better have a DAMN good reason for lying like this.

Also see this NY Sun article from Jan 2006: Iraq’s WMD Secreted to Syria, Sada Says

The man who served as the no. 2 official in Saddam Hussein’s air force says Iraq moved weapons of mass destruction into Syria before the war by loading the weapons into civilian aircraft in which the passenger seats were removed.

The Iraqi general, Georges Sada, makes the charges in a new book, Saddam’s Secrets,” released this week. He detailed the transfers in an interview yesterday with The New York Sun.

“There are weapons of mass destruction gone out from Iraq to Syria, and they must be found and returned to safe hands,” Mr. Sada said. “I am confident they were taken over.”

Mr. Sada’s comments come just more than a month after Israel’s top general during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Moshe Yaalon, told the Sun that Saddam “transferred the chemical agents from Iraq to Syria.”

Democrats have made the absence of stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq a theme in their criticism of the Bush administration’s decision to go to war in 2003. And President Bush himself has conceded much of the point; in a televised prime-time address to Americans last month, he said, “It is true that many nations believed that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. But much of the intelligence turned out to be wrong.”

Said Mr. Bush, “We did not find those weapons.”

Again, this pisses me off to no end, because the Left and the Democrats and the media use these quotes to completely discredit the facts that come out about WMD being found.

And ONCE AGAIN, the Bush Administration better have a DAMN GOOD REASON for lying like that.

UPDATE I: Interesting comment at HotAir by Perchant:

The Democrats stalled our invasion of Iraq. Their stalling strategy had its own catch phrase called “why the rush to war?”. We now have the answer to that question.

My conspiracy theory on that one was that some Democrats (using runners like McDermott, Bonior, Lindauer) worked with the Russians, the French and other oil for food partners to remove Saddam’s WMD from Iraq so that Saddam could accept a last minute inspection. The clock ran out on them and “shock and awe” commenced. They were hollering “no wmds” before we even entered Baghdad and there was no reason for them to be confident of that.

UPDATE II: Commenter stonemeister has another good point:

If the truth were known, it would become public that Iraq, with the help of Russia (which also supplied aircraft and trucks), shipped off WMDs, supplies, materials, and manufacturing equipment to Iraq and even some to Iran, shortly before the war started.

Letting this info out would burn bridges (as if they existed) between us and Russia, and would cause the middle east to go up like a tinderbox. Israel would feel threatened by Syria, and feel tempted to strike these stockpiles before they were attacked, and Iran would have the perfect excuse to attack Israel. If we “insulted” Russia with these facts, they would turn more against us (as if that were possible), and eliminate any chance they could take our side against the Islamists. Plus the fact that North Korea, Russia, France and Germany was selling supplies, materials, and equipment to Iraq and Syria, the whole thing would blow up.

Talk about a world war! That’s why Bush has been willing to take his lumps, to fight one battle at a time. I don’t think he was counting on one of the battles he’d fight was with the Dems and press of his own country!

And that is probably it right there. I don’t think anyone could have predicted how Bush Derangement Syndrome would infect the Left, the Democrats and the MSM so much so that they would commit treason. The fact is, all of us underestimated the utter delusion and hatred that infects the leftists, based on their losing their political power in 2000.

UPDATE III: Via Commentor TheBigOldDog:

This is an important companion article in Melanie’s Diary:

The questions that need to be asked about those WMD

It’s long but important. For example:

At the 2006 Summit, a tape recording of Saddam discussing his nuclear weapons technology was presented to the public. The tape clearly shows Saddam discussing a progress report on a laser enrichment system for uranium, one of the more advanced methods to make a nuclear bomb. This nuclear technology tape had sat untranslated in a Kuwaiti warehouse along with thousands of shelf feet of captured Intelligence files. Mr. Negroponte had decided to give them a low priority until the 2006 Summit revealed their importance.

I think the reason the Admin has downplayed the WMD story is because the worst has indeed happened. As she says, through American incompetence, the worst case scenario has now been realised — that Saddam’s WMD are in the hands of terrorist regimes waging war against the west.

UPDATE IV: This is interesting. Seems as though there is a China connection. Very troubling. Via commentor TheBigOldDog:

They were in Libya and of the nuclear variety, funded by the Saudis, with Pak plans, NK materiel, and staffed by Pak and Iraqi scientists.

And the documents were written in CHINEESE!

Again, from Melanie:

When Col. Quaddafi turned over his blueprints for a nuclear warhead, they were written in Chinese. Even more alarming, the IAEA discovered that tens of thousands of advanced P-2 uranium centrifuges had been manufactured in Malaysia, but had gone missing. The Summit now believes that China had arranged this shipment for Iraq.

UPDATE V: Also see this NY Sun article: Ex-Officer Spurned on WMD Claim

UPDATE VI: Absolutely excellent post by commentor angryamerican. And s/he makes a great point. Saddam’s excuse for the shipments to Syria before the 2003 invasion was “humanitarian aid” to Syria. Saddam did not have enough aid for his own country due to using the Oil-for-Food money to build palaces and fund his WMD programs, yet we’re supposed to believe he could give aid to Syria? Riiiiiiiight. Of course the illogical idiots suffering from BDS on the Left take Saddam’s claims as “gospel”.

In 2002 and 2003 it was reported that the NSA satellites had taken satellite photos of Iraqi Convoys leaving suspected chemical facilities and going into 3 sites in Syria.

Saddam Hussein’s #2 Iraqi Air Force General, General Sada, has testified that he oversaw the transport of Chemical Weapons into Syria, but they were disguised as “humanitarian” aid in 2002 and 2003 before the invasion:

http://newyorksun.com/

These 20 planeloads are what General Sada said contained the Chemical Weapons in this story from Relief Web in June 2002: Iraq sends 20 planeloads of aid to Syrian victims of dam collapse

Saddam Hussein said those 20 planeloads contained “humanitarian aid”, but he was under U.N. Sanctions?!

He said he didn’t have enough humanitarian supplies, which is what he used for the excuse to let his own people starve??!!
But he had enough to send 20 planeloads of “humanitarian aid” to Syria??!!

—————————————————————————————————

And this was further validated by Nizar Nayuf (Nayyouf-Nayyuf).

“A Syrian journalist who recently defected from Syria to Western Europe and is known for bravely challenging the Syrian regime, said in a letter Monday, January 5, 2004, to Dutch newspaper “De Telegraaf,” that he knows the three sites where Iraq’s Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) are kept.”

A senior Syrian journalist reports Iraq WMD located in three Syrian sites

In 2004 10 al-Qaeda terrorists were captured in Jordan with more than 20 tons of Chemical Weapons. The reported targets were the Jordanian prime minister’s office and the headquarters of Jordanian intelligence, and the U.S. Embassy.

It has been reported that up to 100,000 could have been killed in the Terrorist Bombing.

al-Qaeda got those Chemical Weapons out of Syria:

Jordan ‘was chemical bomb target’

In 2003 Iraqi Nuclear Scientist, Dr Mahdi Obeidi, revealed he was hiding the key Nuclear Research and Nuclear Centrifuges needed to restart Saddam’s Nuclear Weapons Program under Saddam’s order.

Saddam reported these nuclear documents, and key nuclear centrifuge parts as “Destroyed” in 1995!

The experts argued that Saddam Hussein had ASPIRATIONS of reconstituting his Nuclear Weapons Program.

These Nuclear Documents and key Nuclear Centrifuge parts were declared DESTROYED by Saddam. They were NOT.

Saddam/Al Qaeda Ties Dubunked? Nope…

So my elected representative to the Senate, the partisan hack Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) wrote a misleading Op-Ed in the LA Times this past week, full of disinfomation, misinformation and some flat out lies. The Military Blogs have been busy dubunking Senator Levin’s partisan nonsense. Two great posts were by Scott Malensek at Flopping Aces and Dadmanly at his blog Dadmanly, and cross-posted at Mudville Gazette’s Milblogs. In addition, John Hinderaker has a great post at Power Line Blog:

Sen. Carl Levin (D), Misquotes His Own Report, Or Does He Mislead from It?

Dadmanly – The Emperor’s Tailor

Malpractice or Malice?

Go read those first for some background. They completely dismantle the misleading and flat out lying tripe that Senator Levin propagates to the masses. Granted, it is not surprising, as Senator Levin has been doing this for years. However, the unfortunate reality is that most Americans are ignorant dolts and will believe Senator Levin’s statements in the Op-Ed based on their utter lack of knowledge of facts and history. In addition to the fact that Senator Levin sits on the Senate Foreign Intelligence Committee, so most naive Americans would assume that Senator Levin knows what he is talking about and is putting out a completely factual and non-biased account in his Op-Ed.

Well, you know what they say about people who ass-u-me things.

Today, Scott Malensek has another great post at Flopping Aces: Saddam’s Ties to Al Qaeda Debunked? in which he wades through all the political BS to get to the facts:

“Collaborative Operational Relationship” seems to be the words that started the idea that Saddam and Al Queda would never work together to attack the US, but those three words are cherry-picked from the comment as a whole-a comment that hinges on the precursory words, “we have seen no evidence.” These are repeated again in the very next sentence, “Nor have we seen evidence….”

At first glance it sounds like the commission members are saying that no evidence exists, but that’s not it at all as some of the 911 Commission members later elaborated.

“John Lehman, a 9/11 commissioner, spoke to The Weekly Standard at the time the report was released.”There may well be–and probably will be–additional intelligence coming in from interrogations and from analysis of captured records and so forth which will fill out the intelligence picture. This is not phrased as–nor meant to be — the definitive word on Iraqi Intelligence activities.””

Upon seeing just a glimpse of the 18% of the millions of documents and thousands of hours of tapes captured from Saddam’s regime, 911 Commission member, Sen. Bob Kerrey (D) said,

“This is a very significant set of facts,” former 9/11 commissioner, Mr. Kerry said yesterday. “I personally and strongly believe you don’t have to prove that Iraq was collaborating against Osama bin Laden on the September 11 attacks to prove he was an enemy and that he would collaborate with people who would do our country harm. This presents facts should not be used to tie Saddam to attacks on September 11. It does tie him into a circle that meant to damage the United States.”

Other 911 Commission members have spoken out as well and made clear that the lack of evidence cited in their report was a reference to a lack of evidence gathered. That word, “gathered” come directly from the CIA reports and other intelligence agency reports regarding Saddam’s Ties upon which the 911 Commission was using to make its assessments.

Mr. Malensek then goes on to highlight the 11 Intelligence reports which reveal consistencies on only a few things:

They all refuse to form a conclusion

They all say there was a relationship, but the depth of it is debated inside the intelligence community

They all say the matter should be looked into rather than dismissed, closed, or perpetuated as a resolved point of discussion.

Mr. Malensek then asks a great question: with all the petty political investigations the Congress conducts (*cough* 8 fired US attorneys *cough*), why hasn’t Congress demanded an investigation into the most crucial information of our time: the extent of the relationship between Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein?

Mr. Malensek concludes:

We the American people must demand that an investigation into the depth of the relationship between Saddam’s regime and Bin Laden’s terrorist network be conducted and conclusions that should have been made before the war finally be made. At a time of war with the remnants of both enemies, how can responsible legislators and a dedicated intelligence community continue to refuse to investigate this? The answer is simple, the legislators who deny the 3 commonalities listed earlier and who dismiss the relationship are simply not responsible legislators.

The absolute denial of politicians who continue to falsely claim that there was no relationship at all between Al Queda and Saddam’s regime are either inept beyond acceptability if they have not read the reports listed above, or they are flat out liars if they have read those reports and are dismissing the nature of those who seek to kill Americans; our enemies in Iraq and Afghanistan. Politicians who claim the war in Iraq is “separate from the war on terror” (where every single soldier and Marine killed or wounded since 5/1/03 has been killed in an attack using terrorist tactics) are either completely uninformed by the US military (ignoring or turning down military briefings and intelligence reports), or they are acting in direct and deliberate misrepresentation of the conduct of this war for little more than penciled in circles on ballots every other year.

Additionally, an intelligence community that continues to take a lackadaisical approach to the matter is not properly dedicated at all levels, but rather as politicized and ideologically divided as Congress. The events of 911, the intelligence failures of the Iraq War, the surprise collapse of the Soviet Union, high level spies infiltrating the CIA and FBI, and so much more all serve as examples to the American people of an intelligence community packed with people who are more concerned about saying the politically correct thing in the political capital of the world than they are about forming a conclusion on who the enemy of the United States is and has been.

Saddam is dead. He was a criminal. He was a mass murderer. He was a tyrant, and he was a liar. Why take his word? Americans spend $40 billion to $100 billion a year for 16 different intelligence agencies, and yet rather than get a conclusion based on the intelligence collection and analysis from those any of those 15 agencies, the American people are told to believe Saddam because they are afraid of presenting unpleasant conclusions on a matter that is at least 4 yrs old, and more accurately 15 years old.

That’s not acceptable. America didn’t pay $160 billion dollars to get told just take Saddam’s word for it. It’s time to conduct a real investigation, and a form a real conclusion – a conclusion from intelligence agencies not political committees acting as intelligence agencies.

Amen to that, Mr. Malensek. Well said. Unfortunately, I am afraid that our government (not to mention our watchdog media) is completely corrupted with power and completely emasculated by Political Correctness, Multiculturalism and Moral Relativism that we have no one with the courage to do what most Americans demand. I hope I am wrong though.

Democrats to Pass Legislation to Provide Nuclear Fuel to Entire World, Including Iran

I echo the statements of Charles Johnson: are these people completely insane? And what does this also say about Democrat-voters. If modern liberals, leftists, so-called “progressives” and Democrat-voters all support this, they are clinically insane, in my opinion, as well. Also, keep in mind the Left is completely against the United States using nuclear power to ween us off oil. Yet, they are all for letting everyone else, including the world’s enemies and fanatical Islamic countries hell-bent on destroying Israel and the United States, having access to it. At least they are consistent. They are also against the United States drilling in its own Gulf (or in ANWR), yet have no problem with China and Venezuela doing it.

Via Charles Johnson at LGF: Et Tu, Lantos?

I have to admit, I’m stunned at these statements from Tom Lantos. I thought he was one of the few remaining principled Democrats; but now it’s clear that he’s just as willing as any of them to sacrifice everything he stands for to achieve political power — even if it means the most craven, suicidal appeasement of the sworn enemies of America: Pelosi, Lantos may be interested in diplomatic trip to Iran.

Lantos said that for more than a decade, he has been trying to obtain a visa to visit Tehran with the help of former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan — and to date neither he nor any other member of Congress has been successful.Pelosi said that throughout the congressional delegation’s recent Middle East trip, “every place we went we had a constant message: the safety and security of Israel, fighting terrorism.”

“There was, of course, a shadow over all of it, Iran: Iran’s support of terrorist groups is something that must be stopped,” she said. “Iran’s quest for a nuclear weapon is something that must not happen and we must stop them with the strongest of diplomatic measures.”

Lantos noted that “with the speaker’s support,” he has co-sponsored legislation in the House that calls for making available to all countries — including Iran — nuclear fuel for peaceful purposes under international oversight by establishing a “nuclear fuel bank.”

“So if the Iranian president says that he is developing (nuclear material) for peaceful purposes, we are assisting him in that process,” said Lantos, who anticipated the legislation could pass as early as May.

Are these people completely insane?

Also, keep in mind how well it worked out for us when we gave nuclear fuel to North Korea for “peaceful purposes”. Apparently, the Democrats have not learned the lesson from the mistakes made by the Clinton Administration.
